The stem ends in a large floret in the shape of an artichoke drop. Chandelier in chiseled brass plated with 24 carats gold. 3 women, garlands of flowers, pineapples. 33 lights on 3 levels. This noble and ancient chandelier presents the rococo style typical of the reign of Louis XV in the 18th century. The French have always set the trend and while Baroque art was born in Rome, Rococo art was born in France in the 1720s. Rococo set the standard for what was in vogue and held a complete monopoly helped France to become the center of 18th century fashion. The carved patterns throughout the structure are beautiful, ethereal and lavish. The Rococo style represents natural floral motifs but poetizes them with asymmetrical curves. The pattern carved lines on the canopy of the chandelier and the candle holder are all curved, the curves on the light branch can be said to look like vines, which makes the chandelier eye-catching but not dull. The vines and acanthus leaf motif are embellished in this antique French gilt bronze chandelier. This sublime chandelier has three levels with 30 lights. Each branch of the lights is cast in gilt bronze and richly decorated with floral garlands. The candlesticks are meticulously and intricately carved like a blooming flower when surrounded by layers of acanthus leaves. The canopy above depicts drooping, flowering, espagnolette-shaped vines that hang down as if holding the arms of three women aloft. The image of these three women is The Three Graces of Greek mythology. According to ancient Greek literature, The Three Graces are the image of the three daughters of Zeus: Euphrosyne, Aglaia and Thalia. The sweetness of the three graces brings out the high aesthetic familiar to the Rococo style in the 18th century. Finishing the lower body of this splendid large gilt bronze chandelier is a lifelike artichoke.
