"An Adrianople Red Printed Cotton Scarf For The Ottoman Market Circa 1900-1920"
Circa 1900-1920 England for the Turkish Market An astonishing Turquerie in the form of a cotton shawl printed on an Adrianople red or "Turkish" red background. Drawing with large medallion loaded with a dromedary with trimmings tassels and Turkish crescents in profusion. Production from a Manchester factory for export to the Ottoman market. Similar reference to the Museum of Mulhouse (MISE) and in particular in the book "Le Rouge Magnifique" published during an exhibition of this same museum. Selvages on two sides and not hemmed, these shawls were cut with scissors. Here the colors are chemical acid green, ultramarine blue and lemon yellow corresponding to the technological supremacy of England at the end of the Victorian reign. Tiny pinholes on the two lateral sides, otherwise perfect condition of color and preservation. Dimensions: 90cm x 102cm
