On the marble a metal plate on which is inscribed "Au Général Devanlay, Les Officiers de la cavalerie de Tunisie, 1927"
The artist was a pupil of Jean Injalbert at the National School of Fine Arts and then exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1919 as well as at the Salon d'Automne. He made sculptures and decorations for the town hall of Cambrai.
