Object description :

"Marquise De Calvimont, V. 1785. M G Capet (follower/workshop…)."
Beautiful portrait of the Marquise circa 1785-1790 dressed in a very elegant morning dress seated at a table and holding a brush; a pretty canary near its leaves pecking at a heart of lettuce. Portrait from which may have been produced either by the workshop of MG Capet or by a close follower. (1761-1818)
Marie, Magdeleine Rigaud de Vaudreuil born in 1767 in Saintes, married in 1785 Jean, François Marquis de Calvimont, Baron des Tours de Montaigne, Lord of La Chaise and Néac, Major of the King's vessels, Knight of Saint Louis.
She is the daughter of Louis Rigaud Comte de Vaudreuil, lieutenant general of the King's naval armies, commander of the navy at Rochefort, knight of Saint-Louis and of Marie du Breuil de Théon.
The Marquise de Calvimont de Tayac died in 1828 at the Château des Tours de Montaigne in Libourne.
The Marquis during the Revolution, wrongly considered as an "emigrant" was recognized as "present", removed from the lists, however detained later and then released. He died in 1830.
At the top left of the painting are the medieval arms of the Calvimonts, the oldest of them having carried the banner of the knights in the 11th or 12th century.

Portrait in very good condition, on its canvas.
