"Bambocci Commode - 17th Century Genoese Work"
Large Bambocci chest of drawers in walnut and burr walnut opening with three drawers decorated with alternating reserves of foliated friezes, the uprights carved with characters in the mannerist taste, top edged with modillions, the whole resting on a strong base of grotesque masks . 17th century Genoese work. Dimensions: 87 x 144 x 58 cm. History: This chest of drawers called "cassettone à Bambocci" is a perfect example of the mannerist art which appears in the North of Italy and more particularly on the side of Genoa, the decoration of masks of grotesques and mystical figures on the uprights that the 'one calls "Bambocci" refers fully to the bestiary of the Renaissance.
