Limoges Enamel Vase, 19th Century, Silver Frame
A Limoges enamel vase entitled "Purity" representing a young girl in a luxuriant rose decoration. Silver mounting in rocaille style, dog head hallmark. The execution of this painted enamel is excellent. Delicate art object, of great technical quality, mastery of the colours and of its workmanship, in perfect condition.
At the end of the 19th century, the market value of enamelled work seemed to depend on one absolute criterion: the technical skill of the enameller. For the public and the critics, it is measured in particular by the amount of work it seems to have required. It can also be appreciated in the illusory fidelity of the work copied, often after old masters or in personal creations. Because of the use of techniques considered complex, close to mythification, the finished object ends up with a selling price accessible only to a part of the population.
