Pair Of Louis XV Plates, Trévoux 1751-1771, François-luc Bouvier, Sterling Silver
Magnificent pair of Louis XV period round dishes with the hallmark of the master silversmith François-Luc Bouvier and the city of Trévoux for the period 1751-71. They are engraved with a coat of arms surmounted by a count's crown probably for the Boys family, counts of Riocourt and barons of Damblain. The city of Trévoux had a large population of goldsmiths because it was juist outside the kingdom of France in the sovereign principality of Dombes. The goldsmiths thus escaped the severe regulations decreed by Louis XIV on the subject of precious metals and goldsmiths. The dishes weigh 1340 grams.
