Object description :

""athena", Oil On Canvas, Italy, Early 17th C."
Athena, goddess of war, wisdom, strategy and inventions, protector of heroes, patron saint of craftsmen as well as arts and letters. She was considered the protector of several cities in Greece, including that of Athens. It usually has several attributes; the aegis, the lance, the helmet, the branch, the serpent, the winged victory. Her left hand on her helmet adorned with a gilded crest, placed near the hilt of her sword, she is covered with a large red-pink drape passed over her breastplate. To his right in the shadows we see a caduceus. Oil on canvas, Some old restorations and wear (it is currently in our workshop for restoration) 19th century frame in gilded wood which eats a little on the canvas. A handwritten document by Jacques Maroger (1884-1962), researcher and technical director of the Louvre museum laboratory (1935-1937) attributing the work to the school of Titian, accompanies the painting.
