"Madonna And Child By Jean-luc Oudry"
Style: Figurative work from the 90s Condition: Excellent Technique: Chamotte sandstone Other: Signed Height: 52 cm Jean -Luc Oudry was born in 1947 in Paris. A former student of Notre-Dame de Bury college, he moved to Bellaffaire (04) in 1978. Self-taught, he devoted himself to sculpture in the company of various materials (wood, stone, earth, etc.) and he exhibited in France and abroad. (England, Scotland, Belgium). His work is very successful. In an extremely elaborate technique, the works of Oudry, remind us of the universe of Bellmer which he quotes with a very personal interpretation. He also designs pieces in chamoté sandstone from an ancient world that he revisits at leisure. In 2005, the Hautes Alpes Museum devoted a retrospective exhibition to him. “To meet Jean Luc Oudry is to meet a landscape. A unique landscape in these Alpes-de-Hautes-Provence, however generous in remarkable sites. A drawn landscape, with Monumental shapes, as if reworked by a lost civilization which would have left there the schist pyramids, a sculpted landscape, a geology which expresses with strong evidence its long complexity. A landscape of artist in a way, where emerges, on an eminence of this baroque and powerful relief, a village. It is there that we find, while searching carefully, in the quiet streets of Bellaffaire, the workshop of Jean-Luc Oudry… Among the beautiful diversity of pieces gathered in the workshop, I was irresistibly captivated by female bodies bent, turned over, exhibited in splendid shamelessness…. For simple shapes, with transparent intentions, the chamotée earth, heavy and smooth gives the sculpture a reassuring classism, a collection status…. We also discover nudes of light earth, fired in their natural state, with their hyperrealistic flesh-pink patina, bodies knotted, disarticulated, fragmented like a Dubuffet, of an equivocal and falsely candid eroticism, like the Bellmer dolls…. Alongside the female figures, a particularly complex figure emerges from the works of Jean -Luc Oudry: large wood compositions, sophisticated assemblages which are like a synthesis of his research, which concentrate allusions, quotes, references (Tinguely, Spoerri, Picasso) and always a dose of humor and derision. These are kinds of organic accumulations, which resemble meccanos of humanity, and of which we would like to be able to dismantle parts in order to understand their functioning as in life. These large works punctuate in a powerful way the progress of the artist and, by their intention, as much as by their dimension give to his work a scale where the monument has its place ...
