"Maupertuis - Physical Venus. 1751. Book On Reproduction, Monsters, Albinos ..."
MAUPERTUIS (Pierre Louis Moreau de) - Physical Venus. sl, se, 1751; in-12, 240 pp., period full calfskin binding, ornate smooth spine, edges painted red. Sixth revised and enlarged edition. Pierre Louis Moreau de Maupertuis, born July 17, 1698 in Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets near Saint-Malo and died in Basel on July 27, 1759, is a 17th and 18th century French philosopher, mathematician, physicist, astronomer and naturalist which notably contributed to the dissemination of Newton's theories outside England. This text deals for the first part of observations of medicine relating primarily to procreation, spermatozoa and ova, seen under a microscope. The second part deals with what the author observes of various crosses, far from political correctness: monsters, races, and albinos as well as descendants of black and white couples.
