"Allegory of Charity" Domenico Piola (Genoa 1627 -1703) attr. Oil painting on canvas Baroque carved and gilded frame Canvas format 100 x 120 frame 140 x 165 Excellent state of conservation Superb large oval canvas representing a beautiful young woman lovingly caring for two children. It is the most classic allegorical interpretation of "Charity", the third of the three Theological Virtues after Faith and Hope which are the cornerstone of Christian morality and behavior. The work is obviously of an exquisite workmanship and expresses with extreme elegance the pictorial characteristics of the Genoese Baroque, in particular of Domenico Piola, great interpreter of this important artistic movement. The beauty of the canvas is underlined by an extraordinary baroque frame carved with foliage and gilded patterns that blend perfectly into an impressive whole. The remarkable workmanship of the frame, in addition to being an important added value, testifies to the importance of painting and the level of its customers.
