"Monumental Louis XVI-style Wall Sconces After Thomire"
This large pair of sconces was inspired by a suite of six sconces delivered in 1787 by Pierre-Philippe Thomire for the Salon des Jeux du Roi at the Château de Saint-Cloud. Subsequently divided, the set is now kept between the Petit Trianon, the Louvre Museum and the J.P. Getty Museum in Malibu. This model was very successful in the nineteenth century and was copied by famous bronzemakers such as Alfred Beurdeley (1847-1919) and Henry Dasson (1825-1896).
