"A Pewter Jug - 17th Century"
A baluster-shaped pewter jug with a low body. A handle and a flat cover with tassels as a thumb rest. On the outer surface of the back is stamped the mark of PITER VAN HOORN of Utrecht, possibly related to Isaac van Doorn and J. van Doorn, who were working in Utrecht at the same time, as well as Isaac II van Doorn afterwards. . In the account book of the pewter makers of Utrecht, from 1574 to 1746, the name of Piter van Doorn appears twice; a first time in the ordinance of 1638 and a second time in 1643 (1). The shape of this jug as well as these historical data lead us to conclude that it was probably made in the first half of the 17th century. literature: tin & tingieters - b.dubbe - de tijdstroom p. 113 - 375 - 377 fig. 50,532
