Majestic monstrance or monstrance-sun in solid silver baroque style dating from the mid-nineteenth century. Its style is very much in the tradition of the second half of the seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth century. It is decorated with vines, ears of wheat and cherubs. It is crowned with a crown which forms a canopy above a representation of God the Father who is surrounded by a cloud. The rays of the sun are executed in gilded bronze for reasons of solidity.
Provenance: Treasure of the franciscain monastry of Bruges where after a four century long presence , the last friars have left the town.
It weighs 3000 grams.
