On a beautiful spring day, a man is walking along the path lined with almond trees in bloom. Born in 1895 in Avignon, Gustave VIDAL is a landscape and marine painter. Laureate of the Fine Arts of Avignon where he obtains numerous awards. He participates in Paris, at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he is a member. He painted landscapes of Provence, Camargue and Corsica. As this oil attests, today it is undoubtedly one of the best great Provencal landscapers of the early twentieth century. An excellent colourist, he models the dough with a knife like no one before; like a mason he constructs his canvases in three dimensions. Compositions always of an admirable balance.
