Nuremberg, South Germany

Dimensions: h. 45 cm, l. 94 cm, p. 50 cm.

Nuremberg chests known as sea chests or money chests were used by army treasurers as mobile safes, or by captains and merchants on board ships where they performed the same function. They are particularly appreciated for the aesthetic beauty of their locks, which illustrate the desire to create a tamper-proof system while associating it with harmony and elegance.
