Kota Obamba Reliquary Figure - Gabon
Superb and rare reliquary figure from the Rives de La Sebe height 64cm This fascinating sculpture with a rounded front is presented as one of the archetypes of this very rare type, nine examples showing however obvious variations are already known and are attributed to a master sculptor named " Master of the Sebe "Strong occidation of the brass plates which we see some gaps on the forehead. The round eyes supposedly made of human bone fixed under well-marked arches. A roughly cut copper frontal ridge. The back of the sculpture reveals a dense and dry wood very cracked or appear traces of old black patina. indigenous restoration at the foot Provenance LECLERE sale of June 25, 2011 (see last photo)
