Alfred Stevens - Seascape - Oil On Panel 35 X 27 Cms - Dedicated, Dated 1891

Lovely painting by Belgian painter Alfred STEVENS, best known for his worldly portraits, which also produced remarkable seascapes.

Painter extremely sought after during his lifetime, who sold at very high prices, his works are exhibited in many museums: Orsay Museum, Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg ...

STEVENS has here painted a sailboat in the open sea, the sails relaxed, its occupant devoting himself to fishing (we can guess the fishing rod which extends the silhouette).
In the background, other boats can be seen.
The sky and the sea, remarkably treated, offer subtle contrasts.

This painting has the particularity of being dedicated, countersigned and dated on the reverse.

Oil on panel 35 x 27 cms (with gilt frame XXth, approximately 55 x 47 cms)

Signed lower right "A.STEVENS"

Dedicated in french on the reverse "To (name of the dedicatee deleted), memory of a friend of her husband" , countersigned and dated "Paris 12 feb 91" (for February 12, 1891)

Very good general condition, some old repaints to report, not visible, and some scuffs along the edges of panel because of an old framing, now hidden by the new frame
Painting just been completely cleaned, ready to be exhibited
