Paul Charles Emmanuel Gallard-Lepinay (Aulnay1842-Paris1885) "Sunset in Venice on the lagoon" Oil on canvas Signed and dated 1867 Measures canvas 82 x 50 frame 94 x 62 Excellent condition. This spectacular sunset located in the most fascinating view in the world, is a beautiful work of Gallard-Lepinay The painting is a concentrate of emotions and the viewer is fascinated by an image so beautiful that seems unreal, the result of a dream fantastic that materializes with a vision that is pure poetry. The author, famous for his many representations of Venice and the lagoon, he is not limited to the simple description of natural beauty, but offers a dreamlike interpretation between reality and fantasy. The light that radiates from this painting is truly something incredible. We find a very similar work in a Sothebi's auction in New York of 3.6.2010 lot.229 (see photo). Lepinay became famous for its "Navy" and was named "official painter of the French Navy", a recognition which earned him the presence of his works in several museums in France. He competed with Felix Ziem in the creation of beautiful paintings with Venice and its extraordinary views. The pictorial technique of these two French artists was so similar that they could confuse unsigned paintings.
