Gaston Bertrand (1910 -1994) is a Belgian painter, draftsman and engraver.
From 1927, he followed courses in different academies, from 1932 to 1937, courses by Henri Ottevaere and G. Fontaine. There, he became friends with Anne Bonnet and Louis Van Lint. All three participated in 1938 in "Art Jeune", an exhibition organized by Charles Pry at the Atrium Gallery.
In 1938, he received the third Prix de Rome grant, thanks to which he stayed a month in Paris.
In May 1942, during his first solo exhibition, he presented a set of works which reflected his desire for originality and creativity.
In 1944, 1946, 1949, the Apollo Gallery devoted a monographic exhibition to him.
Founding member of the group La Jeune Peinture belge in July 1945 (alongside him, among others, Anne Bonnet, Louis Van Lint, Jo Delahaut, Marc Mendelson, René Barbaix, etc.), he participated in all of the group's exhibitions.
In 1950, the architect Jacques Dupuis built him a daringly designed workshop in a corner of Uccle where he lived for thirty-four years.
In 1989, the Gaston Bertrand Foundation was created to promote and preserve his works.
