This fine work by Albert Sébille, depicts the Cuirassier Richelieu on 8 july 1940 when, off Dakar, it was attacked and torpedoed by english Sworfishs planes launched from an aircraft carrier than can be seen in the background.
Being only slightly damaged, the ship was repaired in the United States before to served in the Free French Forces.
This work is accompanied by a certificate issued by the family of Albert Sébille on the back of the photo of the painting as well as a note from Maître Meunier, the auctioneer who sold the Albert Sébille estate.
