Portrait Of Two Little Girls Dated 1841

This portrait represents two young sisters. The elder (probably 10 to 12 years old) and her younger sister. They are both dressed in a puff-sleeved dress in "Prussian blue" color and a cotton shirt white with a lace collar illuminating their faces. They are wearing gray canvas shoes with reinforced toes of black leather. They have the front surrounded by a fine cord intended to contain their hair. We recognize the eldest by the grip by the hand of his younger sister as a sign of guardian authority. The bird's nest symbolizes the family nest. A straw hat and a watering can accessorize this bucolic decor and situate their environment. At the bottom, there is an architecture made of high walls surmounted by cacti in pots. A greenhouse or winter garden reinforces the idea of a bourgeois property. The table in perfect condition has its original frame on the sheet in perfect condition also.
