Russian Medallion By Fydor Petrovitch Tolstoy
Octagonal Russian medallion in low relief dated 1816 by Fydor Petrovitch Tolstoy (1783-1873) Vice president of the Imperial Academy of Russian Arts for 40 years. Renowned for his work of reliefs, watercolors and reliefs on classical registers. In 1810 he created a series of 12 medallions on the theme of the great Napoleonian battles. The wax originals and the album of drawings are kept at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg. dimensions: 19 cms per side Very fresh in color, slight crack.
