Beautiful and rare Empire Style Soapware hand knotted in the Aubusson workshops around 1930. Beautiful quality of wool. Photographs of this Soapery before cleaning and complete overhaul. In 1627, during the reign of Louis XIII, Du Pont and Simon Lourdet moved at the request of the King into buildings acquired by the Crown near the Chaillot hill, which was an old soap factory, hence the name Savonnerie. These carpets were exclusively reserved for the Crown or for gifts to the nobility and foreign monarchies and were not intended for the market of a wealthy public. It wasn't until the 19th century that the Savonneries, knotted in Aubusson's workshops, were sold to the Haute Bourgoisie, and the carpets from the Savonnerie were clean and in good condition. Full refund if the carpet does not meet your expectations. Free shipping in France
