Large 18th century painting, representing an elegant member of the aristocracy or the French nobility. Our subject is dressed in a blue dress embellished with lace and embroidery. A luxurious shawl with moire highlights envelops her bust to create an effect of volume and opulence. Our lady of quality holds in her left hand "an open snuffbox made of gold", which she is about to use to snuff her tobacco. In the 18th century, this object of precious and refined virtue, was an important symbol of the social situation of its owner (as such, the snuffbox was often offered as a gift or worn as jewelry). The painting presented here deals with a beautiful pictorial quality with colors cleverly rendered, leaving guess the nature of the materials (lace, taffeta, gold, skin tone). Our painting dates from the second half of the 18th century around 1760. Its realization evokes the school of Jean-François Delyen. It is presented in a large carved and gilded frame, 18th century period. Oil on canvas (81 cm x 64.5 cm) and its frame (100.5 cm x 84.5 cm). Literature Jean-François Delyen (1684 - 1761) is a painter who approaches stylistically Nicolas de Largillierre, with whom he entered apprenticeship around 1710 - 1715. He was received at the Royal Academy on 24 November 1725 on presentation of portraits of Nicolas Bertin and Guillaume Coustou. He exhibited regularly at the salons of the Academy which will take place from 1737 to 1747. His rare works reveal an endearing artist and spiritual.
