Carpet entirely hand-knotted; pure wool, vegetable tieltures, size: 325cmX220cm. The rug of Sarough is a type of Persian rug. The carpets are divided into two groups according to their decor: traditional decorations and those intended for export. Traditional pieces have a central medallion and the cartons used are similar to the Kashans, although more linear. We also often find the boteh pattern, rather small. The main border is large, adorned with the heraldic border pattern, and flanked by two side bands adorned with rosettes and meanders. The Herald Motif that develops from the sixteenth century, it owes its name to its probable origin: Herat . It is a complex composition of floral elements: four flowers (or four palmettes) framing a rhomboid element with a flower in the center and four crescent-shaped leaves evoking small fish (its mahi forms, meaning "fish" in Persian). The boteh The boteh evokes by its form a drop or the foliage of a cypress. Some see in it Zarathustra's tongue of fire, a Buddha's tear, or a pine cone; but this motif had to be related to the floral world since boteh means "bouquet of flowers" in Persian. In fact, the "Boteh Gegheh" is a mystical Iranian flower. It is the imaginary rose of Iran, the most romantic flower, the symbol of love. It is found on all cartons since the seventeenth century, in the form of semi large stylized flowers. This motif can be figured in geometric or curvilinear style.
