André Brouillet (1857-1914) Signed lower right "André Brouillet", located in "Athens" and dated "1903" Beautiful oil on canvas depicting the Parthenon on the acropolis of Athens. This is probably the preparatory study for the realization of the left side of the painting: Renan meditating his "Prayer on the Acropolis" made in 1902 and formerly at the Sorbonne. You can find a painting reproduction on the following link: This study represents exactly the view he had from the top of the acropolis, since he had stayed in Greece to realize the portrait of Queen Olga of Greece. This is a view taken in the evening. The date of the study was surely added when André Brouillet offered it to a collector friend. (The painting was acquired from the family) The canvas is in very good condition, just a little cleaning to predict. Small gaps in the frame.
