"Portrait Of The Marquis Of Beaucaire, Early 19th Century"
Exquisite 19th century bust length portrait of Anne Charles Marguerite Marthe Louis Pechpeyrou (1782-1827), Marquis de Beaucaire. The artist has depicted the sitter wearing his uniform, a black single breasted coat with high collar, silver epaulettes and buttons, and the honourary star of St Louis. The work has been remarkably well executed. The artist clearly understood the oil technique and has produced an image with great realism. The sitter’s face is very lifelike, almost photographic, and the flesh has been rendered with subtle colour nuances, and the soft powdery finish adds to its overall appeal and attractiveness. A highly attractive portrait.
