He was practicing in the Rue de Clery about the middle of the eighteenth century. He is indebted for works of a fine quality. Étienne Meunier was the first and certainly the most renowned dynasty of Parisian carpenters. His life is little known. Towards the middle of the eighteenth century, he officiated rue de Cléry and worked for fashionable merchants such as Pierre Migeon and Étienne Igou. All the Louis XV seats, bearing their stamp are of a very good quality. He produced shepherdesses, armchairs of various shapes, light and elegant, chairs with sober and well-studied lines, a large number of resting-beds, but the office chair appeared to be his great specialty. Most of these armchairs are classical, with circular-shaped seats covered with leather or with cane, the belt resting on a front foot. Étienne Meunier was probably one of the creators of this model. The decoration is discreet and the sculptures, of great finesse but not very abundant and little varied, were often limited to a flower framed a few leaves. His workshop, mentioned again in 1770, was perhaps preserved by widow until the end of the reign of Louis XV
