Pair Of Toiletry Bottles From France, Late 19th – Early 20th Century

A pair of bottles from the Belle Époque period. These luxury pieces were crafted in the most renowned European glass and metalworking districts of the time, such as Bohemia and France, famous for their skillful combination of crystal and gilded bronze mounts. The bodies of the bottles and their respective stoppers are made of high-quality, heavy crystal, characterized by remarkable clarity. The necks and bases are protected by bronze mounts, while the stoppers feature a geometric, multi-faceted (diamond-cut) finish. This particular cutting technique is not merely aesthetic; it was designed to capture and reflect the light from the dressing table, a common feature in aristocratic bathrooms or vanity tables. The mounts are made of openwork, embossed, and gilded bronze. The edges, shoulders, and vertical corners are decorated with ribbon motifs, plant motifs, and stylized friezes. This technique, typical of historical-style decorative objects, lends the set a sumptuous appearance. The true aesthetic and collectible highlight of this set is the central oval panels. Within molded frames featuring a leaf motif are two polychrome enamel plaques depicting the profiles of elegant women. The pictorial style evokes the Romantic and revivalist taste of the late 19th century, which looked back nostalgically at 18th-century court portraits, reinterpreted, however, through the sensibility of Belle Époque bourgeois portraiture. These bottles are exceptionally elegant decorative accessories, ideal for enhancing a period console table, a display case for collectibles, or a refined, classically styled bathroom.
