A Beautiful Little Oval Box Made Of Solid Silver, Decorated With Cupids, Musicians, Angels, And Cherubs, From The Late 19th Century.
An elegant oval box made of solid silver, with the lid richly decorated with exquisitely detailed relief work. The lid depicts a group of three winged cupids floating on clouds. In the center, a cherub plays the lyre; to his left, another (Cupid) holds an arrow, and the third holds a garland of flowers. This central medallion stands out against a sumptuously guilloché fan-shaped background (sunbeams). Together, these elements create a romantically rendered scene of exquisite craftsmanship.
This beautiful box is in very good condition and opens and closes perfectly.
The interior retains a beautiful gold finish (vermeil). Two “woodworm” hallmarks (indicating sterling silver) are present on the inner rim.
