Antique Pitcher And Pair Of Blown And Engraved Glass Glasses – Late 18th Century – Early
A jug with a flattened, circular body resting on a circular foot, characteristic of neoclassical pieces.
The jug features a decoration entirely engraved on the potter’s wheel (rotary grinding): a large central medallion adorned with a star-shaped rosette, framed by a radiating frieze of ovules. The neck flares gently to form a sinuous spout, balanced by a splendid hot-applied handle.
The pair of assorted glasses echoes the same decorative repertoire using the same technique: blown with a flared rim, they feature a relief decoration of domes and carved fluting, which create a play of light refraction and offer a very comfortable grip. The base of the glasses echoes the radiating motif on the pitcher’s foot.
Condition: excellent condition for pieces of this era. No chips, cracks, or restoration. Normal wear from use and slight traces of a ground pontil under the base.
