A Game Of Donkeys At Robinson, 1895
A charming and rare wooden jointed toy inspired by late 19th-century fashion, featuring the tree-top walks and restaurants created at Le Plessis Robinson.
The Parisian manufacturer Mauclair-Dacier offers “Une partie d’ânes à Robinson,” a set containing a pair of donkeys and two children, Toto and Zézette, riding on the donkeys’ backs.
It is accompanied by a large sheet of paper folded into a picture story comprising about fifteen captioned vignettes, signed by Ludovic.
It states at the bottom of the page: “The pieces in this set allow children to recreate the scenes above and even others, according to their taste and imagination.” The wooden box is slightly warped; it measures 26 x 22 cm. The figures are in perfect condition except for the missing half of a donkey’s hind leg.
