Small Grotesque Figure, Viennese Enamel - 19th Century
A remarkable and rare piece of art from the late 19th century, characteristic of the refined craftsmanship of the Viennese enamel workshops. The object rests on a square, curved-sided silver base (40 x 40 mm)—which remains in perfect condition—supported by four small, chased feet. The sides of this base are adorned with finely hand-painted, polychrome scenes of rural and peasant life, set within reserves framed by decorative enamelwork. Rising from the top is a whimsical, grotesque figure: a caricature of a man wearing a top hat and a frock coat, holding a cane in his right hand. The figure is distinguished by a striking belly made of a blown-glass pearl, lending the piece a great sense of originality. Height: 11 cm
