Goldscheider – Large Polychrome Terracotta Sculpture – Young Woman At The Fountain
An elegant and impressive polychrome terracotta sculpture from the famous Austrian manufacturer Goldscheider, depicting a young woman kneeling by a spring, delicately holding a jug she is about to fill.
The young woman, wearing a scarf tied at the back, is dressed in a long gown with soft, flowing folds. Her delicate face, slightly tilted, conveys a gentle reverie and great serenity.
The particularly harmonious composition combines feminine grace with a naturalistic setting of rocks and trickling water. A large amphora with two handles, placed beside her, balances the composition and enhances the picturesque quality of the scene.
The sculpture stands out for the quality of its modeling, the finesse of its details, and the remarkable rendering of the drapery. Its polychrome patina, with shades of brown bronze, deep green, and golden highlights, lends great visual richness, subtly emphasizing the forms and the play of light.
This work perfectly illustrates the Goldscheider workshop’s penchant for elegant female figures and naturalistic compositions at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
A beautifully proportioned decorative piece with romantic charm, representative of the refinement of Goldscheider’s Art Nouveau-era productions.
