Niko Kralj, Set Of 8 “rex” Folding Chairs, 1950s–1970s
Artist: Niko Kralj 1920-2013
Set of 8 folding chairs known as “Rex,” an iconic model of modernist and mid-century design, created in 1952 by the renowned Slovenian architect and designer Niko Kralj (1920–2013) for the manufacturer Stol Kamnik.
This model stands out for its clean, geometric lines and ingenious folding mechanism: the frame is made of bentwood, while the ergonomic seat and backrest are formed from openwork slats of thermoformed plywood.
The set is sold as-is, in need of restoration: surface wear, localized chips or missing veneer on some slats, scratches, and original patina.
The folding mechanisms are functional
Dimensions of unfolded chairs:
Height 75 cm // seat depth 36 cm
70 x 58.5 cm
Dimensions when folded:
Height 77 cm
59 x 11 cm
