Late 19th-century Canopy Bed Canopy
In the tradition of bentwood furniture (Thonet, Fischel, J. & J. Kohn)—crafted from solid wood that has been turned and steam-bent—this canopy is in superb condition, with a very sound structure and solid wood showing no warping or major cracks. Superb original patina. Late 19th century
This bentwood canopy stands out for the fluidity of its oblong arch and the slenderness of its central axis, adorned with a very elegant, carved wood finial in the shape of a spinning top.
Ideal for recreating the intimate and theatrical atmosphere of an alcove, it is perfectly suited to crown a daybed, a boat bed, or a corner bed in the Louis XVI or Empire style.

Technical Installation and Draping Instructions (For Interior Designers)
This model features a period-specific technical design that requires precise orientation:
1. Ceiling Mounting: The upper circular plate is designed to be hung directly and flush against the ceiling, positioned at the geometric center above the bed.To drape an alcove bed installed along a wall, the crown must be mounted in profile (perpendicular to the back wall). When viewed from the front, the curved wooden arch thus displays its thin vertical edge.
2. The “scarf-style” drape: This configuration allows for installation without any seams or gathers. A single strip of fabric (heavy linen, blended fabric, or antique Indian fabric) is threaded directly through the edge of the arch. The fabric thus flows in a single piece, dividing smoothly to the left and right to elegantly drape the head and foot of the bed, without any unwanted twisting of the material.
