Mid-Century Mexican Carved Guerrero Azteca Table Lamp with Onyx Alabaster Shade, circa 1960

A distinctive Mid-Century Mexican carved table lamp featuring a sculptural depiction of a Guerrero Azteca (Aztec Warrior), expertly hand-carved from solid wood and surmounted by a beautifully figured polished onyx alabaster shade.

The finely carved warrior is shown in a crouching pose upon a rectangular plinth decorated with stylised wood-grain scoring. He is richly detailed with an engraved geometric feathered collar and matching ceremonial headdress, reflecting traditional Aztec iconography. The front of the base is hand-incised with the title “Guerrero Azteca”, confirming the subject of the sculpture.

Above, the lamp is fitted with an elegant tapered cylindrical shade carved from translucent white onyx alabaster, displaying striking natural cream, grey and honey-brown mineral veining. Supported by a four-pronged dark metal bracket, the shade emits a beautifully soft ambient light, highlighting the unique character of the natural stone.
