Louis Albert-lefeuvre (1845–1924), “the Bell Founders Of The Middle Ages”

Artist: Louis Albert-lefeuvre

An exceptional Symbolist sculpture from the late 19th century, titled “ The Bell Founders of the Middle Ages”, created by Louis Albert-Lefeuvre and cast by the prestigious Siot-Decauville Foundry.

This spectacular work depicts two young medieval bell founders, rendered with remarkable naturalism, supporting an imposing gilded bronze bell richly adorned with friezes, oak leaves, and decorative motifs. The piece powerfully illustrates the nobility of craftsmanship and pays homage to the ancestral art of bell casting, a symbol of spirituality, tradition, and expertise.

The contrast between the dark patina of the figures and the warm gilding of the bell gives this composition a remarkable sculptural presence and a particularly refined aesthetic balance.

Dimensions: Height: 49 cm - Width: 45 cm

Siot, Paris, one of the most prestigious French foundries of the Belle Époque, which commissioned the greatest sculptors of its time.

Louis Albert-Lefeuvre (1845–1924) was a student of Auguste Dumont and Alexandre Falguière at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited regularly at the Salon beginning in 1875 and participated in the 1900 World’s Fair. His work, characterized by powerful realism and great sensitivity, celebrates allegorical figures as well as the world of labor and French traditions. His sculptures were cast by the leading art foundries of his era.

The model “ Medieval Bell Founders” was presented at the 1900 World’s Fair, making it an iconic work of that period, when French art celebrated traditional crafts and excellence in the decorative arts.
Exemplars of this sculpture appear very rarely on the international art market.
This work appeals to collectors of French sculpture as well as to enthusiasts of Belle Époque decorative arts and institutions seeking to acquire an iconic piece of French artistic casting.
