Curved Louis XV-era Chest Of Drawers
A chest of drawers with a curved front and sides, featuring three drawers with crossbars. It rests on curved legs joined by a scalloped apron.
The veneer combines burl walnut in the recesses with curly walnut on the frames, accented by dark fillets. The fronts are adorned with fine light-wood marquetry: scrollwork, shells, and cross-barred cartouches framing the keyholes. The wooden top, veneered with four sheets of walnut, is surrounded by a frame inlaid with fleurons at the corners and in the center.
Rocaille-style bronze hardware: pull handles, lock plates, and apron trim.
The frame, made of oak and softwood, retains its wrought-iron lock strike plate. Tool marks and the patina of the raw wood attest to its age.
Made in eastern France, circa 1750–1770.
In good overall condition, with a beautiful patina. Minor imperfections and wear on the veneer, consistent with the piece’s age.
