Large Carved Wooden Panel In High Relief. Late 17th Century.
A beautiful antique panel made of solid oak, richly carved in high relief, likely dating from the late 17th century.
This interesting piece of woodwork features remarkable carved decoration, highly ornate in style, consisting of two symmetrically arranged winged putti framing a central motif of stylized foliage.
On either side, elaborate scrollwork of acanthus leaves, foliage tendrils, and floral rosettes unfolds in a generous and dynamic composition characteristic of the Baroque decorative style of the late 17th century.
The deeply carved sculpture features beautiful relief effects and attests to true artisanal craftsmanship.
This panel, likely part of a former set of wood paneling or a monumental piece of furniture, is now a beautiful piece of wall decor, particularly suited to a period interior, a home with character, or a collection of wood carvings.
It has a beautiful antique patina, with signs of wear, small cracks, and imperfections visible in the photographs, consistent with the piece’s age.
A mounting hook is attached to the back, allowing it to be hung directly on the wall.
