Daum Nancy Enameled Glass Vase/bowl With Japanese-style Design Of Cranes And Water Lilies, Circa 1890
Antique two-handled glass cup with enamel and gilding, signed Daum Nancy.
This piece dates from the late 19th century, around 1890.
The bowl features a Japanese-inspired design depicting cranes in flight above a watery landscape composed of water lilies, reeds, and flowering branches.
The design, finely enameled and accented with gold, stands out against a glass background with iridescent shades of green and pink.
The two translucent glass handles also feature gold accents and small floral motifs.
The piece rests on a gilded metal pedestal decorated with stylized leaves and fluting.
Signed "Daum Nancy," accompanied by the Cross of Lorraine, inscribed in gold beneath the base.
This piece illustrates the influence of Japonism on Daum’s glassware production in the late 19th century, particularly in the choice of naturalistic motifs and the delicacy of the enamels.
