"hunting"-style Desk Inkwell Made Of Oak, Deer Antler, And Silver-plated Bronze Accents, V

An exceptional and highly decorative English desk inkwell with a hunting theme, dating from around 1900; it is crafted from richly grained oak and spectacularly topped with a pair of genuine deer antlers.
The solid rectangular oak base is embellished with silver-plated bronze trim and ornamentation, combining traditional English cabinetmaking with the sporty aesthetic characteristic of late 19th- and early 20th-century country house interiors.
The centerpiece of the composition is the impressive pair of naturally shaped deer antlers, mounted vertically on turned wooden supports and connected at the top by an elegant metal structure featuring scroll motifs. Their characteristic webbed shape creates an imposing silhouette and immediately links the object to European traditions of hunting and sporting life.
The top features two cut-glass inkwells with metal lids, as well as a central engraved metal box. A wide front drawer, fitted with a ring handle and decorative metal trim, offers additional storage space for writing instruments and accessories.
The side handles are particularly striking; they extend the hunting theme through a combination of metal and natural deer antler.
The contrast between the warm grain of the oak, the silver-colored metal weathered by time, the faceted glass inkwells, and the antler with its natural patina lends the piece great visual richness.
Standing approximately 70 cm tall, this piece far transcends the status of a conventional desk accessory. Its architectural scale and spectacular structure made of deer antler give it the presence of a true athletic sculpture or hunting trophy, while retaining its original practical function.
The piece has undergone previous restorations and exhibits a few minor missing pieces and signs of wear, consistent with its age and use. These details in no way detract from its overall appearance; the structure remains sturdy, and the piece as a whole retains a highly decorative character.
