Louis Vuitton – Vanity Case / Leather Travel Kit, Bottles & Accessories, 20th Century, 1920
A vintage Louis Vuitton vanity case or travel kit.
The set is presented in its fawn-leather-covered rectangular case, which closes with a metal clasp and is marked with the initials “P. C.” on the lid.
The interior is lined with black grained leather and bears the Louis Vuitton label, listing the brand’s locations in Paris, Nice, Lille, London, Buenos Aires, and New York.
The case still contains part of its original toiletries set: bottles and boxes made of cut or molded glass with silver-plated metal caps and lids, a brush, a nail file, a nail clipper, a button puller, as well as various small accessories held in place by their black leather loops.
In good overall condition.
Case dimensions: 25.5 × 21.5 cm. Height: 8.5 cm.
Louis Vuitton, founded in Paris in 1854, quickly specialized in luxury travel goods.
In addition to its trunks, the house produced luggage, suitcases, vanity cases, and toiletries sets—either custom-made or produced in small batches—combining leather goods, perfume bottles, toiletries accessories, and metal fittings.
These sets reflect the development of modern travel and the refinement of the cosmopolitan lifestyle of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
