Thanks to the recent publication of Augustus the Strong’s inventories and their virtual reconstruction, this model can readily be identified in the first inventory of 1721.
Augustus the Strong (1670–1733), King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, maintained throughout his life a particular interest in the arts and, above all, in porcelain. This fascination, which became almost obsessive, led him not only to collect virtually every type of porcelain produced by the Meissen manufactory, but also to assemble an exceptional collection of the Asian porcelains that had inspired its development: Japanese and Chinese porcelain.
For an identical example, see:
– Dresden, Augustus the Strong Collection, N 30, PO 2954
