17th- And 18th-century Jean Racine-style Terracotta Library Bust
A small terracotta cabinet or library bust depicting the famous French playwright and tragic poet Jean Racine (1639–1699). The writer is depicted in a three-quarter view, looking to the left, wearing the large curly wig characteristic of the Louis XIV era. The bust rests on its original pedestal, on the front of which the name “RACINE” is engraved. This piece is directly inspired by the famous portrait sculpted in the 18th century by the Neoclassical artist Simon-Louis Boizot. This bust features a beautiful original patina.
