André Lothe, “seated Nude”
Artist: André Lothe
Oil on wood (mahogany) depicting a seated nude woman. The colors in this painting still have a beautiful vibrancy, even though it has not been cleaned since its purchase in Algiers.
The purchaser of this painting was Jean Choski (1901–1984), a philosophy teacher at Lycée Gautier. As an Agrégé professor, Jean Choski’s students included Jacques Derrida and Alain Amselek, among others. He was a regular in Algiers’ art scene, and I believe this painting was purchased at a gallery in Algiers or during an exhibition at the Villa Abd-el-Tif, which he visited very frequently.
The dimensions refer solely to the mahogany panel.
