Musical Automaton In A Glass Dome – Windmill, Moving Boat, And Clock, 19th Century, Toy / Curiosity

Antique musical automaton under a glass dome depicting a animated seascene.
French work from the mid-19th century.
The ensemble features a scene consisting of a windmill perched on a rocky promontory, a small dwelling, a clock face with Roman numerals, and a three-masted ship sailing on a stylized sea.
All set against a painted backdrop depicting a coastal landscape animated by sailboats.

The mechanism, concealed within the base and the structure of the scene, is activated by pulling the cord located on the side: a melody begins to play as the ship sets sail and the mill’s sails turn simultaneously.

The mechanism works perfectly, and the animation retains all of its original charm.

The back panel allows you to view the mechanism and still bears an old label reading “Musique à 2 airs.” Some signs of wear and minor age-related changes are visible, but these do not affect the overall functioning or the appearance of the decoration.

The model works perfectly.

Dimensions of the globe: 40 cm high × 36 cm wide.
