Daum Nancy – Art Nouveau Vase “ophrys, Bees, And Spider Web” – Circa 1900
A rare small double-walled glass vase by Daum Nancy, with a flared shape and a multi-lobed opening, featuring a remarkable naturalistic design characteristic of the Art Nouveau style.
The glass background, in shades of yellow-orange, ochre, and brown, creates a particularly rich marbled effect. The design is enlivened by Ophrys-type orchid flowers, stylized foliage, and bees in flight.
In the background of the composition appears a delicate spiderweb, subtly integrated into the design. This detail adds an extra layer of naturalism and fully contributes to the theme combining flowers, insects, and elements of nature—a motif particularly favored in Daum’s creations around 1900.
The lower, darker section is adorned with an elegant plant motif accented with gold, forming a richly crafted base that contrasts with the light tones of the vase’s body.
Gold signature on the base: “Daum Nancy” with the Cross of Lorraine.
