Pair of Art Deco bookends featuring bronze elephants with a silver patina, mounted on Portor marble bases.
I also have a pair of identical bookends with a gold patina for sale.
“L. Fontinelle” signatures engraved on both pedestals.
Signatures are almost faded due to cleaning, and there are a few minor imperfections on the marble, as is always the case

Louis de la Fontinelle (1900–1974) was born in London. Known for his animal sculptures, he exhibited at the “Salons des Artistes Animaliers” in Paris as early as 1929, alongside Paul Jouve and André Margat. Human figures are very rare in his work.
